To celebrate his 60th birthday, Decca Classics gave Jean-Yves Thibaudet 'carte blanche' to choose a very personal selection of music he has never recorded before - the encores and childhood favorites he has loved for years, and new material he has helped bring into existence. The resulting album includes Dario Marianelli's Pride & Prejudice Suite, a commissioned adaptation of his soundtrack to the 2005 film, as well as Thibaudet's own transcriptions of Harline and Washington's Disney theme 'When You Wish Upon a Star' and Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.
After a perfectly paced Consolation No. 3 (Liszt), zippy A prole do bebê (Villa-Lobos) and charming transcription of Salut d’amour (Elgar), Thibaudet slips in some of his own arrangements. In all, best served to those with a sweet tooth.
