Notes and Editorial Reviews
In this collection it is the turn of pianists to take centre stage. Some of them will be familiar as famous solo artists, while others fronted their own groups or small ensembles which bear their name. Occasionally there are the unsung heroes whose work in orchestras often goes unnoticed, although they would surely be missed if they suddenly disappeared. Among the talented pianists spotlighted are famous names such as George Shearing, Semprini, Winifred Atwell and Roger Williams, together with some remembered from earlier times, including Billy Mayerl, Carroll Gibbons and the lady who died tragically young at the peak of her popularity, Raie Da Costa. Most are playing with top light orchestras like David Rose, Robert Farnon and George Melachrino.
