Notes and Editorial Reviews
On the new release of Hungaroton, we have compiled the programme of the world-famous soprano, Sylvia Sass, who made her debut on the stage of the Hungarian State Opera House in 1971. During her stage career, which spanned 24 years, she sang nearly 50 leading roles. Alongside Richard Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder, which huge emotional depths, and Wagner’s Wesedonck-Lieder, the best-known arias from operas by Boito (Mefistofele), Catalani (La Wally), Cilea (Adriana Lecouvreur), Gounod (Faust), Mascagni (Cavalleria Rusticana), Verdi (Un ballo in maschera, Otello, La forza del destino) and Wagner (Tannhäuser) can be heard on her jubilee album. Three of Mozart’s concert arias also feature in the release.
