Notes and Editorial Reviews
Paraclete Press is proud to present the recordings of the monks of Solesmes. This disc presents the unmatched authenticity which characterizes the exquisitely gracious and moving performances of these monks. Since 1833, this Benedictine monastery on the River Sarthe in western France has established the world standard for performances of Gregorian Chant. The monks of Solesmes are winners of numerous prestigious international awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque, the Deutsche Schallplatten Prize, the Diapason DíOr and the Edition Preis. The three Masses on this recording are attributed to the first three of the thirty-four weeks in ìOrdinary time,î that part of the liturgical year between the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord and Lent, and from Pentecost Sunday until the beginning of the Advent season. The Masses for the first three weeks were originally composed for the first three Sundays following the Feast of the Epiphany. They are among the masterpieces of the Gregorian repertory and demonstrate its capacity to serve and highlight the Word of God in the Roman liturgy.
