Now a Yale Professor Emeritus, Carrington has continued to work with the choir as a guest conductor. This and his previous Delos album – both recorded in concert – are the fruits of his continuing association with the choir that he developed into one of America’s premier academic chamber choirs. The program features mesmerizing sacred music spanning the entire English Renaissance by John Taverner, Thomas Tallis and Orlando Gibbons. The album’s centerpiece is The Glory and the Dream: a substantial and moving choral cycle setting Wordsworth’s poetry by the late, lamented Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, and with a significant contribution from organist Thomas Murray.
