Notes and Editorial Reviews
Angela Gheorghiu returns to Decca to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her legendary La Traviata with Sir Georg Solti. A 23-track album featuring rare and classic songs never before recorded by Gheorghiu. Winner of five Gramophone Awards, twice recipient of Female Artist of the Year from the Classic Brits, in 2018 she received the ‘Victoire d'Honneur’ award in France.
The Romanian singer's art turns these selections into small scenes full of drama, melancholy or overflowing joy as the case may be. The marvelous "Beau soir" of Debussy, all delicacy, shares space with the nice "Nel cor più non mi sento" of Paisiello, with the contained Bellini "Vaga Luna" - a boast of vocal control and the Belcantist singing line -, the melancholic "Ideale" of Tosti - finished in a pianísimo that takes your breath away - or the Martini song that gives title to the album, embroidered, not forgetting the passionate Tristesse on Chopin's music, to conclude with the energy of Obradors' El vito , after marveling at Two Lieder by Richard Strauss.
