Notes and Editorial Reviews
For its first recording on the ATMAClassique label, La Nef presents a program devoted to Scottish poet Robbie Burns (1759-1796). The latter set music and arranged some 400 of his poems, and in doing so, played an important part in preserving the music and songs of his native Scotland. With the exceptional participation of soprano Meredith Hall, who has been lauded for her preciseness and lushness of tone, La Nef convenes us to a meeting between knowledgeable music and popular tradition, to the strains of the theorbo, Baroque guitar, harp, flutes, and viola da gamba.
