Notes and Editorial Reviews
The Hungarian String Quartet (1935-1972) was one of the pre-eminent European chamber ensembles of the middle of the last century; their EMI mono and stereo Beethoven cycles and their DG Bartok cycle are still highly cherished by music lovers. This collection includes over 5 hours of previously unreleased concert performance recordings of the Quartet along with rare 78 and LP transfers never before on CD, with excerpts from a 1971 interview and detailed notes on the works and performances by critic Harris Goldsmith.
