Notes and Editorial Reviews
Bela Bartok was not only one of the most influential composers of the twentieth century, he was also a virtuosic pianist. The recordings of Bartok performing on his instrument are difficult to find, but offer an invaluable fount of beauty and insight into the artist’s mind. His progressive spirit equally balances his honor of tradition. The first disc in this set features Bartok performing works that he, himself composed. The second disc features works by Bartok as well as Domenico Scarlatti, Johannes Brahms, Zoltan Kodaly, and Ferenc Liszt.
