Notes and Editorial Reviews
On her second album, Arias & Scenes, acclaimed soprano Nino Machaidze looks to her future. Conducted by Maestro Daniele Gatti with the Orchestre National de France, Arias & Scenes is a nod towards the major roles that are on Machaidze’s upcoming schedule. Two of those roles are Violetta (in Verdi’s La traviata) and Manon (from Massenet’s Manon). On Arias & Scenes she sings the lynchpin Act III duet from Manon (with young tenor Atalla A yan) and also Violetta’s great cry for freedom in “Sempre libera.” Since her success as Juliette, in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, French repertoire has played a particularly crucial role in Machaidze’s career. In addition to the Manon duet, she also sings the demanding mad scene from Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas, and the languorous aria “Me voilà seule dans la nuit” from Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles (The Pearl Fishers).
