Young violinist Yang Tianwa is a native of Beijing and picked up the violin at the age of 4. Yang made her concert debut within a year's time, and was soon celebrated as the "Violin Prodigy from China," traveling to various parts of the mainland, making concert appearances. Soon, word of Yang's extraordinary ability reached outside of China, and was subsequently permitted to travel to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Sweden to make appearances -- the last-named engagement was a command performance for the Queen. Yang's playing was praised by Seiji Ozawa, and she was one of the last young violinists to receive a favorable commendation from Isaac Stern. Yang recorded the 24 Caprices at age 15, and is the youngest violinist to have done so; that same year she accepted a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauch Dienst to study in Germany. Yang divides her time between the Central Conservatory of Music in China and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany.
