Bohdan Warchal, was the founder, artistic director, violin soloist and chief conductor of the Slovak Chamber Orchestra and was also a concert master of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Bratislava. Warchal's conducting, particularly of Baroque era works is noted for clarity of form and beauty of tone. In 1960 he was awarded the position of National Artist by the former Czechoslovakia government. His legacy is carried on by his son, Bohdan Warchal Jr..
