José Pablo Moncayo's best-known composition is his rhythmical orchestral fantasy Huapango (composed in 1941), however his output also included many other pieces of great appeal, including Amatzinac for flute and string quartet (1935); Symphony (1944); Sinfonietta (1945); Homenaje a Cervantes, scored for two oboes and strings (1947); and the opera La Mulata de Córdoba (1948); as well as Tierra de Temporal (1949); Muros Verdes for piano solo (1951); Bosques (1954); and a ballet titled Tierra (1958).
