Italian song writer Eduardo Di Capua was born in Naples in 1865. He worked with the poet Giovanni Capurro to create "O Sole mio", which became so popular that it is sometimes assumed to be a traditional folk song. "O Sole mio" has been recorded by a great many singers, both classical and popular. Di Capua also composed "Marie, Ah Marie" (published in English speaking countries as "O Marie"). The songs of Eduardo Di Capua are in the Neapolitan tradition.
