 Wonderful! October 15, 2016
By Roger S. (Ithaca, NY) -- See All My Reviews
Many folks know at least some of Glen Gould's Bach performances, so there will not be a lot of surprises. For me there were performances I had not heard by him, but by others. Never less than totally enjoyable. The sound, including the older mono recordings, is fine, allowing you to enjoy the performance. The only down side to my mind is these are what are called "original jacket" discs, which means you get exactly what was on the original LP. The consequences are, first, shorter playing times than we are used to with CDs. The second is that some LPs included performances of Beethoven and others, so you get more than Bach. Gould's ideas about all music are interesting, so not a negative for me. Terrific performances in decent sound at an affordable price. What's not to like? Report Abuse

 Gould and Bach,one of a kind May 9, 2013
By Henry Federman (Tillson , NY) -- See All My Reviews
Putting together the name of Gould and Bach on a label says everything there is to say about this box of music. Gould is one of a kind when it comes to playing Bach. On some CDs one can hear Gould singing while playing, some say it is distracting,I think that it add to the style of Gould. With one of the DVD (#6) you can really appreciate Gould playing the Goldberg Variations you can really see him how much he gives to this piece. Gould and Bach, one of a kind! Report Abuse

 A Box of Treasures March 1, 2013
By Phyllis H. (Pacific Palisades, CA) -- See All My Reviews
The collection is full of wonders and also some oddities. The Andante of the Italian Concerto sounds as though either Gould or the piano was falling asleep, but other works are played at incredible speed.Often he brings out a melodic line that goes unheard in other recordings. Overall, this is truly a collections of treasures.Even the interpretations that one might question are fascinating. Report Abuse

Better than Patek Philippe November 5, 2012
By Fred Nazem (NY, NY) -- See All My Reviews
I collected and listened to 90% of this collection individually over a lifetime. But to have it all in one beautiful box set is the ultimate possession. In the fullness of time, this will be on par with a rare Silver Ghost Rols Royce and a Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon at a much reduced price. Report Abuse
