This recording was a big disappointment. The music is beautiful, the wonderful cast sings extremely well, but the production is simply unpleasant. Most scenes are so dark you can hardly see what is happening, and the update of a medieval story to the present day does not work in this case. For just one example, the scenes in the monastery come across as quite sinister, which is not the intention of the libretto. The transition between scenes is confusing. The characters are constantly throwing themselves(or others) into painful-looking positions, often on the ground. I would rather have had it as a CD.

Music is wonderful - Garanca always captivates. Production is a bad updating but the singers keep your attention away from the setting - except when the director has her throwing chairs around the room! Polezani's singing/acting melt your heart.

to whom it may concern; la favorite opera is at the top of my list as my favorite! it was well performed and interestingly cast. I still have to pay for my dvd but it is well worth the payment.

I have to agree with the other reviewer. This a dream cast but the production is too busy, trying to make a simple love triangle into something much more complicated/"relevant" than it needs to be.

La Favorite is one of the great operas. This great cast deserved much better staging which could best be described at best.... TEDIOUS!!!! The three performers are three of my favorite singers. therefor: 3-- stars for the presentation. 5 stars for the cast!!!!
