Notes and Editorial Reviews

Radamès, a military hero in ancient Egypt, is engaged to Amneris, the Pharaoh’s daughter, but secretly loves the slave girl Aida instead. Exposed as a traitor, Radamès is condemned to die in a “living tomb” underground, where Aida joins him at the end.

“[This re-release] will undoubtedly find its primary justification, for most collectors, in the Radamès of the young Franco Corelli … the first complete recording by a now legendary and well-loved artist … Mary Curtis-Verna offers an idiomatic, sincere, and wholly committed account of the tremendously challenging title role … Miriam Pirazzini is a wonderful Amneris, rich and vibrant in tone … Questa provides unobtrusive and thoroughly stylish conducting.” —
