1944 Recording of Opera 'Martha' August 16, 2014 By Frederick W. (Alexandria, VA) See All My Reviews "Listening to the opera 'Martha' by Friedrich von Flotow it is easy to understand why it enjoyed immense popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I've heard four different recordings of 'Martha', none of which are recent, and the 1944 recording by the Berlin State Opera is second to none and features an all-star cast of singers. I am unaware of any recording less that 50 years old of this opera. It would be difficult for a modern recording to surpass the 1944 version." Report Abuse
A stellar MARTHA August 14, 2013 By Joseph Erdeljac (West Chester, PA) See All My Reviews "This is one of the best recordings of this opera that I have come across. The orchestra is great and the singers are well balanced and suited to their roles. The singing is all delightful and the energy of the composition is evident at all times. Also to hear it in its original German is a plus." Report Abuse
