Notes and Editorial Reviews
Intended to be inserted in a method of violin, Bartók's Duos far exceeded the expectations of their sponsor. These wonderful miniatures are beautifully rendered by Jan Talich and Agnes Pyka.
Béla Bartók was an indefatigable collector and observer of Central European folk music, and brought to these pieces the influence of multiple arrangements of Eastern European songs and dances. These pages often overlooked form for more ambitious works: in appropriating the music of Hungarian peasants, Romanian or Slovak, Bartók nourishes and renews his style. The lessons learned from these exercises will then apply in the most elaborate partitions in a manner sometimes overt, but more often in a more secret,
more intimate writing. - Indesens Read less
