Canadian-born bass-baritone George London (1920-1985) made a tremendous impact on the operatic world in the course of a fifteen-year career cut short by illness.
His beautifully textured, dark-hued voice encompassed a wide vocal range, from the depths of Boris Godunov to the baritone role of Amonasro in Verdi's "Aida" (the role of his 1951 Metropolitan Opera debut).
He was equally renowned in Wagner as well as Mozart, and his keen dramatic sense and strikingly handsome appearance made him an ideal Don Giovanni.

Very disappointing! May 6, 2013By Jean M. (Toronto, ON)See All My Reviews"Did not realise this was a dvd of a TV show. Not enough of the wonderful voice of George London. Too much operetta and not enough opera."Report Abuse
