Could be better December 20, 2014
By Richard Heffler (Evans City, PA) See All My Reviews
"I think the Red Pony Suite, An Outdoor Overture as well as several other works would have been better choices to include rather than the Dance Symphony and Ceremonial Fanfare, which are not great Copland. Also, there is a strange fade-out in Billy the Kid that was a bad choice. The standard Billy the Kid Suite which includes the Gunfight and the return of the Open Prairie music at the end would have been preferable. The performances are fine although Copland's own recordings made when he was around eighty years old are more exciting and better recorded."
