Here is an all-time favorite recording with good reason. It is a classic example of what made Mercury Living Presence such an important label in the history of classical recorded music. Howard Hanson, a composer of considerable stature in his own right, conducts the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra in two significant works of late nineteenth century American Romantic repertoire with a bonus of the little known, earlier, composer Johann Freidrich Peter.

Hitherto rarely recorded repertoire, so appropriate for these performers, is captured in spectacular sound that to this day is standard-setting. In fact the natural and immediate Mercury sonic quality's have rarely been found anywhere since.

A perfect example of the truly unique contributions that Mercury created, and simply a joy to listen to.
