Notes and Editorial Reviews

Matthias Goerne continues his Schubert survey that has already established him as one of the most gifted exponents of the song repertoire. Goerne does not merely ‘interpret' Schubert, he 'lives' each song and invites the listener to share this poetry and musical intimacy.

This sixth volume also features an unforgettable performance of Schubert's last piano sonata by one of the baritone's favourite partners, Christoph Eschenbach. Offered on a free bonus CD, this ‘second swansong' reveals hitherto unexplored resonances under his expert fingers.

Where two great musicians meet April 20, 2012 By M. Gielen (den Bosch, Noord Brabant) See All My Reviews "This is the most profound and heartrendering performance of Schuberts Schwanengesang I ever experianced.
These two musical giants reach to the highest levels, their interaction is absolute, they penetrate to the heart of the songs with the right sense of sorrow, agony, lonelyness and horror like Schubert intended it to be.
congratutaions Mr Goerne,Mr Eschenbach and Harmonia Mundi, this is a great achievement.
Also the Sonata in B major D960 is performed in a fascinating subtle reading,a revelation of this so numerous recorded sonata where we find many great interpretations.
I can recommend these recordings to every music lover and especially to any Schubert lover,

M.Gielen"
