Notes and Editorial Reviews
Since its founding by Geneviève Soly in 1987, Les Idées heureuses has carved out a distinctive place in Quebec’s musical landscape. Les Idées heureuses enthusiastically presents new discoveries of Baroque works, making their lecture concerts, based on musicological research, into vibrant and important cultural encounters in Quebec. The musicians form a chamber ensemble playing on instruments of the period and perform a Baroque repertoire according to the aesthetics of that era. They have been called "excellent" (New York Times), "consummate" (Gramophone, UK) and showing "obvious professionalism" (Classica/Répertoire, France).
Thanks to research carried out by its
founder, Les Idées heureuses is today associated with the rediscovery and the promotion of works by the 18th century German composer Christoph Graupner. Les Idées heureuses and Geneviève Soly record exclusively for the Analekta label. Their CDs regularly garner excellent international reviews and have been selected as "CD of the Month" by various internet sites and music magazines.
