A stunning collection of works by the finest names in South American classical guitar, including Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel Ponce, and Antonio Lauro. Kayath's interpretation of these classics is surpassed by none, and his performance of preludes by his Brazilian countryman Villa-Lobos is of special note.
“Kayath's inspirational accounts of the Villa-Lobos Preludes can stand comparison with the finest on record… He plays everything here with consummate technical ease and the most appealing spontaneity… Recordings first class” (Penguin Guide 3 stars)
“Colourful miniatures & dances… enviable popularity… Kayath (a Brazilian) is a player of utmost refinement, fluent technique, and clear tone… Warmly recommendable”Read more (Gramophone) Read less

Simply Outstanding!April 9, 2014By Henry S. (Springfield, VA)See All My Reviews"Good news for guitar fans! This wonderful recording is an exquisitely performed recital of works by many of Latin America's finest composers- Mexico's Manuel Ponce, Argentina's Astor Piazzola, Paraguay's Agustin Barrios Mongore', Venezuela's Antonio Lauro, Brazil's Dilermando Reis and (of course) Heitor Villa-Lobos. One would be hard pressed to come up with a stronger lineup of Latin American masters, and Brazilian guitarist Marcelo Kayath treats all of their works on this disk with utmost skill and devotion. His impeccable technique, phrasing, and overall expressiveness work to bring out the inherent beauty in all of the compositions contained here, and the result is a stunningly effective recital. This Alto (Musical Concepts) recording absolutely merits attention by anyone who enjoys classical guitar music. I loved it, and I'm sure you will too. By all means, give this one a listen. Absolutely recommended!"Report Abuse
