Thoroughly enjoyable collection of early great si March 21, 2014 By M. Healey (Durham, NC) See All My Reviews "Volume 2 is as delightful as the first collection of songs. The recordings are not especially noisy, as some transfers of early recordings can be, and the ear adjusts. The recording quality reminds me of watching a black and white movie with monaural sound. In some ways, a monaural recording can be much more satisfying when listening to the human voice. This recording is like an easy form of time travel to a different world that emphasized different qualities of singing. The technique varies wildly from singers today, but the quality of the voices singing at this time is glorious. At the time, recording was still a new and developing technology. The music being sung on these recordings was probably not known as "warhorses" yet; some of the songs were contemporary to the time of the recording. Listen to these "Great Singers" for excitement and discovery!" Report Abuse
