Pretty decent Tchaik 5 & a bonusMarch 7, 2013By Frank Hudson (Bowie, MD)See All My Reviews"For a conductor who's unknown in the U.S. to pull off an impressive performance like this - even with a fine orchestra and in ultra-familiar rep - is something of a coup. This is a vigorous and intense Fifth, although I dislike the extremes of rubato in the very slow second mvt. The engineering of the recording is only so-so -- the hall is quite live and tutti climaxes get pretty noisy and opaque -- but the overall result is good. The bonus is a fine reading of a practically unknown late tone-poem of Tchaikovsky, The Voyevoda."Report Abuse
