Notes and Editorial Reviews

Karajan's conducting is everywhere full of imaginative touches and he inspires playing which is not only of the superlative quality we expect from this great orchestra but is also fresh, alert and has an abundance of energy and spirit. The Hungarian Fantasia is an ideal vehicle for Shura Cherkassky's commandingly brilliant style and effortless virtuosity: although the recording is here a quarter-of-acentury old the piano tone is good.

-- Alan Sanders, Gramophone [9/1986]
