Franck With the Necessary Hard Edges April 23, 2015 By Richard H Bliss (New York, NY) See All My Reviews "Franck's Symphony must be played with hard edges. The nature of the scoring demands this. Otherwise, the sororities descend into blended mush. Leopard obviously understands this, and his interpretation reflects that awareness. Of course, one could well disagree with some of his tempi, but the result here is highly persuasive. The orchestra plays impressively, and Franck's part writing, too often obscured in other recordings, is on display with unusual clarity. This version ranks with the best of them." Report Abuse
