Notes and Editorial Reviews
These sunny, winsome performances are lovely. There’s nothing particularly British about this music by a German composer, written in homage to Corelli, for all that British ensembles understandably have claimed them for their own (who wouldn’t?). It’s more than a little bit sad that ensembles like I Musici are often derided as antiquated in their approach, simply for using modern instruments. The fact is that in all ways that really matter musically—in terms of rhythm, ensemble, tempo, intonation, phrasing, and overall musicianship—these performances vie with the best, and put plenty of “authentic” versions to shame. More to the point, they always fall gratefully on the ear, and deserve their status as mainstays of the Baroque catalog. Buy

"Buy with confidence: I refer to the review of David Hurwitz about this triplet CD. I'm very pleased with this recording, and don't object to modern instruments. Enjoyable. I recommend without reservations."
