A RARE GEM August 2, 2016 By Dane Chamberlain (Pittsburgh, PA) See All My Reviews "Not only was Arthur Fiedler a champion of bringing great music to all the people, he was also the father of the "early music ensemble" with his Sinfonietta, bringing the listener little-known works of the pre-Classical era with a "period instrument" flavor (read, not romantically souped-up); with this "other" ensemble of his, he was also not afraid to tackle the new, as demonstrated by the Hindemith work, with the added bonus of the composer himself as instrumental soloist. And the appearance of a longtime Fiedler Sinfonietta collaborator, E. Power Biggs, in the Handel, not to mention what just might have been the first recording of the ubiquitous Pachelbel Canon, make this a singularly enjoyable bit of musical recording history--in excellent sound for the time."
