...My one criticism of this admirable set is that, in some cases, significant recordings are represented by individual movements — which means that only...the first of Melichar's 1934 Fifth Brandenburg Concerto...[is] included. On the other hand, we do hear Geza Anda's rare 1943 recording of Schumann's Etudes symphoniques complete, as well as the whole of Stravinsky's Violin Concerto with Samuel Dushkin [on DG 459002] as soloist and the composer himself conducting. Both are memorable, as indeed are tasty samplings (self-contained pieces this time) of Vasa Prihoda, Georg Kulenkampff, Eduard Erdmann and the young Helmut Walcha...
