The work was commissioned by Music at Marsh Chapel specifically for use in Marsh Chapel’s Good Friday liturgy. It was premiered on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 with Scott Allen Jarrett conducting the Marsh Chapel Choir and Collegium. It is scored for string orchestra, chorus, and soloists. A second performance (from which this recording is taken) occurred on October 22, 2016.
