Notes and Editorial Reviews
This 14-CD collection brings together Richter’s great recordings for the Eurodisc label with 10 recordings newly remastered from the original analogue tapes, many of which had been out of print for years. It includes the legendary Bach “The Well-Tempered Clavier” recordings as well as Beethoven’s Sonatas Nos. 3 and 4 and Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons”. All CDs are presented in facsimile sleeves of the original artwork.
Captured between 1970 and 1983 when he was undoubtedly in top form, Richter fans will, of course, be delighted with this release. The remastering has been carefully done; in loud passages in some recordings, the power of the sound is almost
overwhelming (especially on the high end), however, the piano has been largely beautifully recorded, a stunningly "singing" instrument.
