Somehow cheapJune 12, 2014By J. Singh (Stockholm, Sweden)See All My Reviews"I have this on an old vinyl but wanted it on cd for a quieter listening since the vinyl is 40 years plus. I must say that it sounded a bit thin. No bottom. Could be my player, please bear in mind. Anyway, I don't regret buying but probably gonna play my old vinyl in spite of crackle etc more than this."Report Abuse
One of the PSO & Steinberg's Greatest.September 5, 2012By Richard Buckley (Oakmont, PA)See All My Reviews"The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra was and is a superb ensemble. It has featured the leadership of several outstanding conductors - Victor Herbert, Fritz Reiner, Williuam Steinberg, Mariss Jansons, Andre Previn, etc. Steinberg was one of the greatest. On this recording , he and the PSO get the most out of Beethoven's masterpieces, which is no small feat. The performers will make you ready to go to war while you are enjoying the 5th, and make peace while listening to the 6th.
My only reservation with this disc is that it was recorded in mono ADD. It's easy to get over that, though, while you hear the outstanding job that was accomplished with the sound. I am familiar with state-of-the-art recordings which cannot hold a candle to this CD. Do not let this trivia deter you from obtaining this masterpiece if you can find it. Enjoy!"Report Abuse
