Sharp Spotlight on Metropolitan Opera's LIVE in H March 10, 2015 By Douglas B. (Pacific Palisades, CA) See All My Reviews "Basically, I have only one criticism of "Encores! - Great Performances at the Met" on DVD. It should have been at least two DVD's because (a) the excerpts selected should each have been accorded more time and (b) additional excerpts from several of the other telecast operas should have been included. The Metropolitan Opera has had surprisingly few "clinkers" in its Live in HD series which was initiated in 2006, and I definitely think that a Volume 2 and a Volume 3 are in order. For starters, the spectacular "red poppies" scene(s) from Borodin's "Prince Igor" and one of Jonas Kaufmann's stellar arias/scenas from "Faust" and "Parsifal." The 80 minutes allotted to this disc is a mere spit in the punchbowl as far as I am concerned, so come on, Peter Gelb, find some sponsorship for additional DVDs pronto!" Report Abuse
Fantastic March 5, 2015 By S. Wolfe (Dunwoody, GA) See All My Reviews "Arkivmusic brings us the best in classic musical selections. I would probably not have the wonderful collection of great opera music without them. The 'Encores' DVD is a terrific gathering of some of the best opera arias." Report Abuse
