Notes and Editorial Reviews

Biss is not only one of the most technically skillful of young instrumentalists (and heaven knows there are plenty of those around) but he has an emotional maturity that belies his years. Profound playing — already a disc to put with some of the finest.... Schumann-playing on an exalted level with performances of all three works that bear comparison with the finest.

Simply superb February 8, 2013 By Pierre M. (Langdon, NH) See All My Reviews "I had the unique privilege to first hear Jonathan as he had turned 16 and had been admitted to Marlboro, in spite of being below the 18 year old minimum age. The following year we heard him play a Schubert 4 hands together with Andras Shiff and on many other occasions together with Mitsuko Uchida. In Marlboro, every musician is exceptionally talented, yet there are the occasional few who are EXTRAORDINARY and Jonathan belong to these few. His Schumann interpretation is consistent with every work he plays, simply superb." Report Abuse
Clarity-control February 5, 2013 By S. Kowal (Boston,, MA) See All My Reviews "I just read his Kindle book praising Beethoven as the ultimate composer but had not heard him perform. He writes well and helps understand the music, which is unusual for a performer and I reccommend the book. He plays here beautifully even if not his favorite composer. Although not known publically as much as some pianists, that is a shame because his playing, articulation, mood, and thoughtfulness even with other composers is really a find for ones collection. It's good Arkiv chose to promote him with the sale and I am happy I purchased it. Thanks." Report Abuse
