Bel Canto fanApril 7, 2012By Perry S. (New Plymouth, -)See All My Reviews"I purchased a lower priced edition of Robert le Diable and that is what I have got. Generally the sound is good, but there is some fluctuation in the volume, probably because in 1985 some of the mikes were a little distant. The short, lower volume periods are mainly during recitatives and chorus' and are only a slight annoyance. At the same time there is a light resonance on the stage. For me, Samuel Ramey is the star, with the other leads not far behind. Alain Vanzo was at the end of his career and I have heard him sing better, but maybe for this role, he sang more in character. Yes - I am quite pleased to have this set of discs. "Report Abuse
