A good rollicing comedy with the best of voicesDecember 10, 2014By M. Mckno Bottrall (PORT PIRIE, SA)See All My Reviews"I have seen and heard seven versions of La Cenerentola, and this to my mind is the best. Von Stade makes a most appealing poor Cinders, and when she turns up as "that woman" she really turns it on. Her voice is spot on the note, her intonation is exquisite. The two males are portrayed as they should be: the prince in an imperious mode, and the valet as a rumbuctious comedian. The settings are delightful, the costumes really spectacular. The two ugly sisters are simply unforgettable, audibly just what is needed, visually impossible to forget. A disc that should be in any opera lover's collection."Report Abuse
The best there isSeptember 22, 2012By Jaime Botana See All My Reviews"Now that Teresa Berganza's recording is unavailable, this recording leads the list. Abbado's talent, combined with Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's magnificent production would alone make it hard to match, but the addition of Frederica von Stade, Francisco Araiza in top state and Claudio Desderi's knack for scene-stealing plus La Scala's armies in wonderful perfection make this an absolute must."Report Abuse
