the classic recording August 12, 2015 By J. Tatnall (West Grove, PA) See All My Reviews "Decca made this classic recording of Lakme in July 1952. It was a John Culshaw production. His book tells it more of keeping the "artistic director" Max de Rieux from doing too much damage as he had with the 1951 Manon. Cast and Opera-Comique forces under Georges Sebastian are completely idiomatic, and Mado Robin is exceptional with her extended high range, used judiciously. The sound is full well balanced mono. Bonus material includes arias by Robin. This set is also available on Pearl." Report Abuse
