A Fitting End December 17, 2013 By James C. (Baton Rouge, LA) See All My Reviews "This release is a fitting end to Janowski's SACD Wagner cycle. As with all the releases in this series, Janowski brings out all the inner voices, giving his readings a chamber music feel, without sacrificing power when needed. The only aspect of this recording that keeps it out of the five star category is tenor Lance Ryan. His wobbly tone mitigates most artistic choices he makes and puts a blot on this otherwise fine recording. Petra Lang, erstwhile mezzo, repeats her fine Brunhilde from Janowski's Die Walkure. Hers is a warm, passionate sound, less bright and lithe than rival soprano Nina Stemme. She is the Varnay to Stemme's Nilsson. The rest of the cast is very fine, as is the sound." Report Abuse
