Bach: Violin Sonatas & Partitas / Martzy
Johanna Martzy artfully performs Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, BWV 1001-1006. This set of works, although completed in 1720, was not published until 1802. Even after its publication, it was ignored until the esteemed violinist Joseph Joachim began performing these solo works. Johanna Martzy’s playing had a coolness that bordered on severity, and her straightforward precision gave her a true talent for performing Baroque works. Her unaccompanied Bach works are still sought after, even posthumously.
