Dear ArkivMusic Customer,

ArkivMusic has selected a new crop of 25 terrific CDs from Naxos on sale now at 3 for $20.* We've mixed several exciting new releases in with both popular and less-known titles from the past that you may have overlooked, running the gamut from pre-Renaissance Renaissance woman Hildegard to contemporary Americans Philip Glass and Jennifer Higdon.

Here is a good sample of what's in our current Naxos 25:

Shostakovich: Symphony No 4 / Petrenko
A ClassicsToday 10/10! This performance confirms the piece as a true classic. It's also extremely well recorded, naturally balanced, and vividly present. Wonderful.

Tchaikovsky: 18 Piano Pieces / Konstantin Shamray
Tchaikovsky transports you into another world with such consummate skill you are left in no doubt that you are in the hands of a genius. Each piece is a miniature masterpiece. From lullabies to mazurkas, from waltzes to meditations, these little gems sparkle with light and are simply delightful.

Copland: Rodeo, Dance Panels... / Slatkin, Detroit
Most Naxos discs represent excellent value; this one takes that to extremes: a seventy-minute-plus running length, a program of three Copland favorites, plus one masterpiece that has not been served so well in the catalog. To top it off, these are really classy performances, brimming with style, wit, and poetry.

Hildegard: Celestial Harmonies / Summerly
Some of Britain's finest, most experienced and versatile choral musicians perform this pure, unadorned, unaccompanied vocal music in the ideal venue of Oxford's Chapel of Hertford College.

Gottschalk: Symphonies No 1 & 2 / Rosenberg
A perfect delight of a disc, of music from that grand pioneer Louis Gottschalk, who charmed the crowds here and abroad up through Civil War days with flamboyant, virtuosic display pieces. Night in the Tropics is guaranteed to lift you off your seat on first hearing.

Saint-Saens: Piano Quartet, Piano Quintet / Ortiz
The 1875 Piano Quartet remains one of the great works in the chamber repertory, a masterful example of the composer’s organizational skill and lyric gifts. Also included are the gorgeous Barcarolle and the youthful Piano Quintet, with its concerto-like role for the piano.

Bloch: Symphony in C Sharp Minor / Atlas, London SO
Acclaimed Bloch expert Dalia Atlas leads the richly scored Symphony in C sharp minor, which fits within the romantic tradition of Richard Strauss, Mahler, and Bruckner and reveals Bloch’s complex talents through rhapsodic forms, exceptional polyphony, and modal tonalities.

Moeran: Cello Concerto, Serenade / Falletta
Moeran was a fine composer with a distinctive and very attractive voice, and the Cello Concerto – suffused with the spirit of Irish folk song – and the scintillating neo-classical Serenade are among his best works. This may well become a reference recording.

Glass, Rutter, Francaix: Harpsichord Concertos / Christopher Lewis
What a great disc this is: three delightful contemporary works for harpsichord and orchestra, easy on the ear, but clever and consistently interesting. A real treat.

Casella: Triple Concerto; Ghedini / Iorio
Naxos continues its acclaimed exploration of the music of 20th-century Italian composer Alfredo Casella with this new recording of his Triple Concerto.

Rachmaninov: Symphony No 1, Isle Of The Dead / Slatkin, Detroit
Leonard Slatkin completes his thrilling cycle of Rachmaninov symphonies with the youthfully exuberant Symphony No. 1, which had to wait until after the composer's death to take its place as one of the great Russian symphonic works of the late nineteenth century.

Faure: Piano Quartet No 1, Piano Trio, Pavane / Dukes, Kungsbacka Trio
Taking a break from their splendid series of Haydn piano trio recordings, the Kungsbacka Trio turns to chamber works of Fauré full of characteristic French color and lyricism.
