ArkivMusic Newsletter

Dear ArkivMusic Customer,

EMI has a catalog full of great opera recordings, featuring many of the finest singers and conductors of the past 100 years. Now, ArkivMusic has a select group of these classic opera recordings – featuring Callas, Caballé, Wunderlich, Domingo, Bernstein, Karajan, and many more – at up to 70% off list price! Quantities are limited, with no backorders at these prices, so don't delay!

Here are a few of the tremendous deals available:

Puccini: Madama Butterfly / Santini, De Los Angeles, Bjorling
2 of the most beautiful voices on record. (2 CDs)

Ponchielli: La Gioconda / Viotti, Domingo, Urmana
Of all the recorded Giocondas, this one has the highest tension. And keep your ears on Urmana - she's a terrific singer. (3 CDs)

Handel: Alcina / Hickox, Augér, Jones, Kwella
A wonderful testament to Arleen Augér. Not only was she in glorious voice at the time, but her Alcina is outstanding for its depth and insight. $9.99 (3 CDs)

Verdi: Nabucco / Muti, Manuguerra, Scotto, Ghiaurov
Manuguerra is a first-class baritone, and Scotto provides thrills and vocal virtuosity with her intensity and conviction. The Philharmonia respond with alacrity to Muti’s taut direction, and the Ambrosian Chorus sings with verve and precision in excellent sound. $9.99 (2 CDs)

Vivaldi: Bajazet / Biondi, Europa Galante
A stunning work. Conductor and cast throw themselves into this with a theatrical passion rarely encountered on CD. $9.99 (2 CDs)

Wagner: Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg / Sawallisch
Sawallisch obtains singing and playing on the highest level of achievement and catches the warmth that pervades the whole opera while also deftly projecting its comedy. Walther has surely never been better delivered by any tenor on disc than by Ben Heppner. $19.99 (4 CDs)

Puccini: Turandot / Lombard, Caballé, Freni, Carreras
Illuminating. The fact that Turandot does have a heart, "girdled with ice" though it may be, is made clear even in her implacability. $9.99 (2 CDs)

Verdi: Don Carlos / Pappano, Alagna, Mattila
For Verdi fans, this French rendition includes music from several versions of the score not available elsewhere, all performed by a stellar cast. $14.99 (3 CDs)

Lortzing: Der Wildschütz / Heger, Wunderlich, Prey
Lortzing's masterpiece is a delightful pastoral comedy that boasts a famous overture, an equally famous aria outstandingly sung here, and wonderful ensembles and choruses often reminiscent of Mozart. Heger leads a distinguished cast in an ideal introduction to the composer. $9.99 (2 CDs)

Wagner: Rienzi / Hollreiser, Kollo, Wennberg, Martin
Listeners persuaded that Wagner only really found himself with Der fliegende Holländer may well be surprised to hear how much of that work is prefigured in Rienzi. $14.99 (3 CDs)

Mussorgsky: Boris Godunov / Talvela, Gedda
While there is no perfect version out there of this complex and compelling opera, I’d put this one high on the list. As Boris, Talvela restores dignity to a part that is too often reduced to a mindless beast. $14.99 (3 CDs)

R. Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos / Janowitz, Kempe
One of the best of all Strauss opera recordings, and one of the elect among opera recordings of any kind. Kempe, one of the century’s supreme Straussians, makes it radiant of sound and substance in every bar. $9.99 (2 CDs)

Don't miss the rest of our classic EMI opera recordings at up to 70% off! (Sale ends at midnight ET May 31, 2013.)

As always, I thank you for your support and love of classical music.
