Why can't I find the Composer, Conductor or Performer on your list? After clicking on the appropriate button on our homepage (eg, Composer), click on the specific letter in the Alphabet Bar at the top of the page. Sometimes, you may need to go one or two levels down from the "Most Popular" artist page to find artists that have relatively few recordings. For example, to find recordings of the violinist Hilary Hahn, click Performers on our homepage, then the letter H in the alpha bar, and then Ha. Her name will be listed on the resulting page. Back to Top 2. I just read about a new release (for example, in Gramophone magazine), why can't I find it on ArkivMusic? Often titles are released in Europe before North America. In these situations, we usually have them available within 6-8 weeks after the European release. We recommend that you check back with us periodically. Back to Top 3. Why is there no SEARCH function on ArkivMusic? The most accurate and comprehensive results for finding a classical recording are delivered through our "drilldown" navigation by Composer, Conductor, Performers, Ensemble, Record Label and Opera Title. Be sure to use the Alpha bar at the top of each page if you don't see what you are looking for. Please note - you can search by Catalog Number on ArkivMusic. Also, the Record Label browse includes a Catalog Number search. If you only have keywords from an Album title – eg, Spirit of the Renaissance or Appalachia Waltz, you might try using our Album Title Search. Please note: this is a specific search on Album title – it will not help you find a piece of music, although it could help you find one of the criteria for the categories listed above. Back to Top 4. Do you carry out-of-print recordings? - Many recordings or performances have been reissued or are available as imports. You should first try browsing ArkivMusic by Composer, Conductor, Performer, etc. - ArkivMusic produces some out-of-print titles on demand as part of our ArkivCD program. You can find these titles by clicking here. - There are some good sources of out-of-print classical recordings online. Here are two sites that you may wish to visit: http://www.gemm.com http://www.parnassusrecords.com Back to Top 5. What does Special Order mean when it appears under the add-to-cart button? A Special Order is a title that the CD distributor or importer no longer has in stock but may still be available from the original manufacturer. ArkivMusic tries to obtain such titles. If we cannot ship a Special Order title in 45 days, your order would be cancelled and you would be notified via email. Back to Top 6. How do I find recordings in categories that do not appear on your homepage - for example, Instruments (Violin, Harp, Trumpet, etc), or Periods (Renaissance, Gregorian Chant. Etc.)? Here are some additional links on ArkivMusic that may be helpful:
7. For Opera recordings, how can I tell if an English libretto is included? Major Label recordings (eg, DG, Philips, Decca, EMI, SONY, RCA etc.) usually include an English libretto, although less expensive reissues may only have synopses. These labels also should include librettos: Harmonia Mundi, Chandos, CPO, Opera Rara, and others. Back to Top 8. Do you carry VHS video, LPs or Cassette tapes? No. Here are a few sources you should try: http://www.gemm.com http:/www.amazon.com Back to Top 9. How can I tell if an Opera DVD includes English subtitles? All Region 1 DVDs include English subtitles. We try to include the Region information on the Product page for each DVD. We also try to include specific details on subtitles on the product page when this information is available to us. Back to Top 10. I have LPs or CDs to sell. Can you help me with a valuation or appraisal? ArkivMusic does not buy or appraise record collections. You may try these sources: http://www.princetonrecordexchange.com http://www.academy-records.com Back to Top 11. Does ArkivMusic sell sheet music or scores? We do not sell sheet music on ArkivMusic - only prerecorded classical CDs and DVDs. Here are a few good sources for printed music: http://www.patelson.com http://www.emusicinprint.com www.kalmus-music.com www.lucksmusic.net http://www.emusicquest.com/pnomip.htm If all else fails, you might try the websites of ASCAP and BMI which include a comprehensive database of all works held by the two protective societies. http://www.ascap.com http://www.bmi.com Back to Top 12. I checked a Radio Station's playlist and clicked a buy link that took me to ArkivMusic, but the recording was out-of-print. Why? We are affiliated with radio stations across the country. Unfortunately, many of the recordings heard on classical radio stations are technically out of print (about 50% of what is played, in fact). This is just a reflection of how the music business works - record labels frequently delete titles from their catalogs but radio stations keep playing what they have in their libraries. Reissued recordings are constantly being released though, often with different catalog numbers and with different couplings. Most stations place a "Buy CD" button next to every entry on their playlists because we put a lot of effort to link up all entries to relevant purchasing opportunities here on ArkivMusic. Rather than having a lot of missing links for out-of-print titles, we try to link all of them to reissued recordings, when available, or if a specific performance truly is out of print, we make an alternative suggestion that is as close as possible to what was played. Nevertheless, there are inevitably a small percentage of recordings for which there is no suitable link. Back to Top 13. What is a Super Audio CD? Will a SuperAudio CD play on a regular CD player? Most of the Super Audio CDs that are currently being produced will play on regular CD players - but you should check to be sure that the disc is a Hybrid SACD. We have more information on Super Audio on our RCA Living Stereo Super Audio page. Back to Top 14. I am an Artist/Composer. How do I get my recordings to be available on ArkivMusic? If your music is available on CD and professionally packaged for retail (with bar codes) you can inform us of your distribution company for North America and we can contact them about the availability of your title. If your album is self-distributed or available from a North American distributor, and also packaged for retail, please send information about it to us via email. ArkivMusic only sells preexisting professionally manufactured releases and does not engage in recording sessions or assist the production of records.
