Excellent Bartok orchestral recording  October 9, 2014
By Gail M. (Goleta, CA) -- See All My Reviews
Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony here give us ideal performances of these two popular Bartok works. The atmosphric movements deliver their strangeness, and there's beauty and sharp articulation as needed in other movements. Recorded sound is excellent. Report Abuse

Proud of Alsop March 26, 2014

In 2001 I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Marin Alsop here in Colorado as she was then resident conductor of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. I liked her style and manner of speaking to the audience before the performance. Her rise to stardom has not surprised me. This is a stellar recording! Report Abuse

This music has been important to me for over fifty years. I find these performances very enjoyable, effective, idiomatic. Better than Reiner? A worthy equal. I enjoyed performances more than, say, Boulez. Report Abuse

It was a little too nice for Bartok, still not unpleasant to listen to. Report Abuse
