Years ago, when these albums were first released, I bought some (not all) on cassette. How thrilling to hear these great shows, with their original orchestrations (or convincing facsimiles thereof), and those casts! Fredrica Von Stade (Magnolia) and Teresa Stratas (Julie La Verne) in SHOW BOAT, Kim Criswell in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and ANYTHING GOES, and Brigadoon with Brent Barrett and the lovely Rebecca Luker. Why hesitate? All manner of Broadway pleasures await.

I have all of these excellent productions from their original single CD releases. All of the shows are given excellent performances and of the later shows with Cast Recordings these far outclass those is cast and sound. The highlight is Brigadoon which has all of the music, beautiful and heartfelt performances by the leads, Brent Barrett and Rebecca Luker. It an outstanding recording. Showboat was the first McGlinn recording and there is nothing quite like it. Well-researched and absolutely complete with great and believable earnest performance from Jerry Hadley and Frederica Von Stade--everything one is great. This recording became the touchstones from stage production at the Papermill Playhouse and the Broadway revival. All the other shows are well performed and have are the most complete scores recorded. Enjoy these wonderful recording in excellent sound.
