Marcel Landowski

Born: February 18, 1915; Pont-l'Abbé, France   Died: December 24, 1999; Paris, France
Landowski studied composition and conducting at the Paris Conservatoire. He later made his living as a music administrator. In his composition, Landowski sought a middle ground between the avant garde and conservatism. Influenced by Honegger and Menotti, his orchestral and choral pieces exhibit his involvement with the metaphysical thought of the East and the neo-Platonists. In making a statement about his work, Landowski said, "the future will, Read more like the past, belong to works which are clear and direct, and which issue from the heart of the artist to be understood by the hearts of all."
