Born: November 15, 1955; Victoria, British Columbia, Canada  
A consistently effective swing and bebop bassist, Neil Swainson has worked with hard bopper Woody Shaw and milder trumpeter Sam Noto, but is better known for his dates with swing and big band musicians like Jay McShann, Ed Bickert, Doc Cheatham, Rob McConnell and Pat Labarbera. He's also worked with Jon Ballantyne. Swainson's done no sessions as a leader but can be heard on discs by McShann, Bickert, McConnell and others.
