Pianist Lydia Artymiw was born in Philadelphia of Ukrainian parents. She began her piano studies at the age of four. From 1962 to 1967 Artymiw studied with Freda Pastor Berkowitz of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and then with Gary Graffman, her primary mentor, from 1967 to 1979. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia which honored her with a “Distinguished Alumna” award in 1991. Her concert Read more appearances, recitals and recordings have received high acclaim, including Gramophone’s “Best of the Year” and Ovation’s “Recording of Distinction” awards.
